View from our hostel
Hey everyone, so I made it to Portugal in one piece after a somewhat nightmare of a travel day. Our first flight to Boston got delayed a long time (thanks for that Spirit) and we had to rush to catch our red eye, but thankfully we made it just in time. However, it somewhat worked in our favor because due to the fact that we were the absolute last people to check in, we got our seats bumped up to the first row! Hello leg room galore.
We arrived in Lisbon at around noon local time and took a taxi to the hostel we are staying at for 2 days. It is in the heart of Lisbon with a view that is to die for (hence the picture above).
Once we were all settled in the hostel we decided to spend the day exploring Lisbon. The city itself is honestly so beautiful, from the cobble stone streets, to the cute chapels at everyone corner, and the red tile roofs – needless to say I fell in love.
The next day we set off for a town call Sintra, known for its beautiful castles and Cabo de Roca, the most western point in all of Europe. We took a 40 minute tram ride right to the heart of the city and wandered from castle to castle. By the time we were finished it was nearly 7pm so we caught a tram back to the Lisbon and set out to meet our friends from Madison who just happen to have arrived in Lisbon that very day!
We had a great dinner outside on the plaza. I had some “codfish” dish which is the most popular dish in Portugal. It consisted of eggs, cod, potatoes, and onions – sounds gross trust me I know, but it was actually to die for.
After dinner we walked around downtown and stopped at a pasteleria because what good meal is complete without dessert?
We got back to the hostel a little after midnight, just as all of our hostel mates were going out actually, but we had to turn them down because Heather and I have an early day tomorrow. We will be making our way down to Lagos to try our hand at some surfing (wish us luck) so it is off to pack!
Tchau!
^ That means bye in Portuguese 😉
